Cruise ships berthed at Piraeus with Athens hills in the distance

Piraeus (Athens) Shore Excursions — Private Tours from the Cruise Port

Cruise ships dock at Piraeus, the port of Athens, about 10 km southwest of the city centre. Most large vessels berth alongside at the cruise terminals (Themistocles / Miaoulis), so you step straight onto the pier — no tender. The Acropolis is a 25–35 minute drive away, and a private tour needs roughly 4–5 hours door to door. Private Acropolis and Athens highlights tours start from €260 per group. We personally vet every operator and guarantee you are back on board before all-aboard time.

Piraeus is the largest passenger port in Greece and the gateway to Athens. Cruise ships use the dedicated cruise terminals on the southern side of the port, separate from the busy ferry harbour. From the pier it is a short transfer to the Acropolis, the Plaka old town, and the Acropolis Museum.

How much time do you need

  • 5-hour stop: Acropolis + Plaka, private car, straight there and back.
  • 8-hour stop: Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, Plaka lunch, Panathenaic Stadium.
  • 10-hour stop: add Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon on the way back.

Getting back to your ship

Every private tour we sell is timed to return you to Piraeus with a comfortable buffer before all-aboard. We track your vessel’s actual arrival and departure, and if your ship cannot dock you receive a full refund.
