Eight private hours is enough to see Athens properly rather than at a run. The day opens with a panoramic drive past Syntagma, the Panathenaic Stadium and Hadrian's Arch, then a licensed English-speaking guide walks you through the Acropolis — the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and the Parthenon — and on into the Acropolis Museum at the foot of the slope. The rest of the day is yours around Ermou Street and Plaka, for lunch in a taverna and for shopping, before the drive back to the pier. Both entrance tickets are arranged in advance.

This is the six-hour tour with the pressure taken off: the same guided Acropolis and museum, a longer panoramic drive, and a genuine break in Plaka instead of a march back to the pier.
Eight hours buys two things the six-hour day cannot fit. The panoramic drive stretches to about an hour and a half, so the stops are real stops rather than slow-downs. And the last stretch is free time around Ermou Street and Plaka — the old quarter under the Acropolis — long enough for a taverna lunch rather than a sandwich.
Your licensed guide takes about two hours on the rock — the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and the Parthenon, with the south-slope theatres if the schedule allows — then an hour in the Acropolis Museum below. The museum’s top floor is built to the Parthenon’s exact dimensions and orientation, so the frieze reads as it was meant to; the original caryatids are here, and the ones on the Erechtheion are copies.
The drive between Piraeus and the centre is about 30 minutes, up to 45 in heavy traffic, each way. That is planned into the eight hours, and the day is built backwards from your ship’s departure with a buffer.
The Acropolis site itself is not well suited to guests with limited mobility — the climb to the Parthenon is up stairs, about half of them worn marble that is slippery in the wet, and the site lift requires a doctor’s report arranged in advance and can still have a queue.
Everything else in the day is forgiving. The museum is accessible, the panoramic drive involves no walking, and the free time in Plaka can be spent sitting. The climb is voluntary: guests who would rather not do it can wait in a café until the group comes back down. Tell us when you enquire and we will plan around it.
