Private Ancient Corinth and Athens Sightseeing Tour from Piraeus

Seven private hours are enough to put the Peloponnese and Athens into one port day. You drive from the Piraeus pier to the Corinth Canal for a stop of up to half an hour, then on to Ancient Corinth, where a licensed English-speaking guide walks you through the Temple of Apollo, the Agora and the Bema where the Apostle Paul addressed the Corinthians in 52 AD. The site entrance is included. The day closes with an hour of panoramic Athens — Syntagma, the Panathenaic Stadium, Hadrian's Arch — before the return to the pier.

Highlights

  • Private seven-hour day covering Corinth and Athens on one call
  • Photo stop of up to 30 minutes at the Corinth Canal
  • Guided visit to Ancient Corinth with the entrance fee included
  • The Bema, where the Apostle Paul addressed the Corinthians in 52 AD
  • An hour of panoramic Athens — Syntagma, the Panathenaic Stadium, Hadrian's Arch
  • Licensed English-speaking guide and air-conditioned vehicle for the full seven hours

The four-hour Corinth tour uses every minute it has. This one has room in it: the same site with the same licensed guide, plus the canal on the way out and an hour of Athens on the way back.

The Corinth Canal

The cut through the isthmus is six kilometres long, twenty-four metres wide at the waterline and over fifty metres deep between sheer limestone walls. Ships pass through with metres to spare on either side. The stop is up to half an hour, from the bridge above it.

Ancient Corinth

Your licensed guide takes an hour and a half to two hours on the site: the Doric columns of the Temple of Apollo, which stood two centuries before the Romans levelled and rebuilt the city; the Glauke Fountain cut into rock; the Agora with the Bema, where the Apostle Paul addressed the Corinthians in 52 AD as described in Acts 18; the Peirene Fountain; and the Roman fountain in the South Portico.

An hour of Athens

The return runs through the centre for a panoramic loop past Syntagma Square and the Parliament, the neoclassical trilogy of the Academy, University and National Library, the Panathenaic Stadium, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus beside Hadrian’s Arch.

This tour does not go up to the Acropolis — Athens here is seen from the vehicle. If the Acropolis is what you came for, our guided Acropolis tours from Piraeus include the site itself with tickets arranged in advance.

Timing

Seven hours pier to pier, and unlike the four-hour Corinth tour there is genuine slack in this one. The day is planned backwards from your ship’s departure; if traffic runs long, the panoramic hour shortens before anything else.

Accessibility

Ancient Corinth is an excavation with uneven ground and some walking, and it may be difficult for guests with mobility concerns. The canal stop and the Athens hour need no walking at all. Tell us when you enquire and we will be straight about what will work.
