Private Ancient Corinth Tour from Piraeus

This private excursion runs from the Piraeus pier to Ancient Corinth, one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Peloponnese and a fixed point on the Footsteps of Saint Paul route. With a licensed English-speaking guide you walk the Temple of Apollo, the Glauke and Peirene Fountains, the Agora and the Bema where the Apostle Paul addressed the Corinthians in 52 AD. The site visit runs an hour and a half to two hours, the entrance ticket is arranged in advance, and the drive is about an hour each way — so the four hours are fully used.

Ancient Corinth is the reason many pilgrimage groups come ashore at Piraeus at all. The Bema — the raised platform in the Agora where the Apostle Paul addressed the Corinthians in 52 AD — still stands, and the account of it in Acts 18 is specific enough that people recognise the place from the text.

On the site

Your licensed guide takes an hour and a half to two hours through the ruins: the Doric columns of the Temple of Apollo, which stood two centuries before the Romans levelled and rebuilt the city; the Glauke Fountain cut into rock; the Agora with the Bema; the Peirene Fountain; and the Roman fountain in the South Portico.

Timing, honestly

The drive is about an hour each way on the motorway, past the Corinth Canal. With an hour and a half to two hours on the site, the four hours are fully used — this is not a tour with slack in it. We plan the day backwards from your ship’s all-aboard time, and if the margin is tight we shorten the site visit rather than the drive back.

If your ship is in port for a short call, tell us the departure time when you enquire and we will say plainly whether four hours works or whether you want a longer option.

Accessibility

The site is an archaeological excavation with uneven ground and some walking, and it may be difficult for guests with mobility concerns. There is no lift and no smooth route through the ruins. Tell us when you enquire and we will be straight with you about whether it will work.
