Santorini (Thira) Shore Excursions — Private Tours from the Cruise Port

Santorini is a tender port: cruise ships anchor in the caldera and tender you to the Old Port of Fira, from where a cable car, curved footpath, or road climbs up to Fira town. Oia, with its blue-domed churches, is about a 25-minute drive north. Because tendering can add time, allow a comfortable buffer for the return. Private Santorini tours start from €320 per group, and every itinerary is built around your ship's actual tender schedule so you get back on board on time.

Santorini cruise port at a glance

Santorini is one of the most dramatic tender ports in the Mediterranean. Ships anchor in the flooded volcanic caldera, and passengers tender to the Old Port below Fira. From there the cable car, a stepped path, or the island road takes you up to the caldera-edge towns.

How much time do you need

  • 4–5 hour stop: Oia and Fira with a private driver, straight there and back.
  • 6–8 hour stop: add a caldera winery and the village of Pyrgos or Megalochori.

Getting back to your ship

Because Santorini is a tender port, we time every private tour to your ship’s last tender and keep a buffer for cable-car queues. We track your vessel and, if your ship cannot anchor and tender, you receive a full refund.

Santorini port FAQ

How long are the cable car queues in Santorini, and will I miss my ship?

The uphill queue in the morning is usually manageable, but the afternoon queue back down to the tender can reach 45–90 minutes at peak, when thousands of passengers try to descend before all-aboard. Build in at least an hour of buffer and come down earlier than you think you need to. A private tour times the descent and last tender to your ship.
